Writing Challenge 13

It’s time for The Poisoned Martini’s latest Writing Challenge!

As a means to inspire continued writing, The Poisoned Martini is featuring an image to spark creativity.  Such images, because of their visual nature, vividly speak to writers and spark ideas for writing.  The idea is to view the image below and to write a scene, a short story, a chapter, a novella, or maybe even a novel!

Last month’s picture recalls the paper lanterns often seen on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve in some communities.  Lighting up the early evening hours these candlelit illuminations line driveays, sidewalks, or roads.  Though they celebrate modern winter holiday eves, they harken back to a time when such lights were ignited in longing hope for the return of the sun and the end of long winter nights.  View the image here.

As for this first image of a new year … consider an iconic inn—perhaps still decorated for the holidays—where characters are or go to spend a weekend or longer …

Waybury Inn

  1. Looks like the Middlebury Inn!!! Want me to write a “scene” from a recent experience there?

    • The inn is certainly near Middlebury, but it’s another well-known landmark more familiarly seen in a different color. What “scene” would you write?
