If you think of March Madness when you think of this month, then this Friday cocktail might suit you, enjoy the Cheshire Cat!
“The Cat only grinned when it saw Alice. It looked good-natured, she thought: still it had very long claws and a great many teeth, so she felt that it ought to be treated with respect.”
This Alice in Wonderland themed drink is relatively new and easy to make. Below is the most common recipe. There are a few others out there with widely varying ingredients, though many incorporate the orange juice.
What you’ll need: Spiced Rum, Peach Schnapps, and Orange Juice.
In a shaker over cracked ice, pour in 1 1/2 ounces each of spiced rum, peach schnapps, and orange juice. Shake and then strain into an old-fashioned glass over cubed ice. Optionally, garnish with a maraschino cherry and serve up with a beaming grin.
Alternatively, some recipes suggest “building the drink” by adding ingredients directly to your ice-filled glass. In this case, put the spiced rum in first, then the schnapps, and top off with the orange juice. No need to layer.
How I like it: The recipe doesn’t really call for the cherry, but really, why not? I prefer to “build” the drink, rather than shake it up. Either way you serve it, taste-wise, this is one crazy drink. You’ll mostly taste the peach and spice part of the rum. But it’s not a bad drink to serve up at parties.
Don’t go mad, drink responsibly!
