With a chill in the air announcing Autumn’s arrival, here’s a drink I tend to enjoy this time of year, the Pomegranate Martini.
The Pomegranate Martini is essentially a Cosmopolitan with pomegranate instead of cranberry juice. It became very trendy in the late nineties and into the first decade of the new millennium. And it doesn’t hurt that pomegranates are rich in antioxidants!
What you’ll need: Vodka, Pomegranate Juice, Lemon Juice, and Cointreau (or Triple Sec).
Pour 1 ounce vodka, 1/2 ounce cointreau, and 3 ounces of pomegranate into a shaker over cracked ice. Pour in a dash or two of lemon juice (fresh if possible). SHake and then strain into a cocktail glass of your choice. Optionally, before you pour, rim your glass with lemon juice and coat with sugar.
How I like it: As above, but a shade more generous with the pomegranate juice, using closer to 3 1/2 ounces. Also I use POM brand juice, and they’ve come out with several blends. The above pictured drink is made with POM Pomegranate Mango. Other blends include pomegranate with blueberry and even green tea!
Pomegranate juice may be healthy for you, but drink responsibly.
Always one of my favorites… I don’t usually go for the pink drinks, or the sweet ones, but there’s something about pomegranite…
