This Friday’s Cocktail is the Kamikaze.
Named for the Japanese pilots who carried out suicide attacks against U.S. naval forces int he closing days of World War II, this cocktail, which apparently had its start as a shooter, can sneak up on you if you have more than a couple. Strangely, Wikipedia’s listed recipe, pulled from the IBA (International Bartenders Association), calls for lemon juice, but it’s always been served using lime juice whenever I’ve had it.
What you’ll need: Vodka, Triple Sec and Lime Juice.
Pour 1 ounce each of vodka, triple sec, and lime juice (fresh if possible) into a shaker over cracked ice. Strain into a cocktail glass or alternatively over ice in a collins glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
How I like it: As you can see, I like it over ice in a collins glass, making it a refreshing summer drink! Now I once had this drink using Absolut Kurant. The added flavor of black currant gave the drink a sharper edge I really liked. Black currant is an underutilized flavor here in the States. And of course, lime juice is a must. Feel free to use lemon juice if you like, but it’s really not the same.
Don’t kamikaze yourself; drink responsibly!
