National Novel Writing Month 2012

Have you started writing your novel?

It’s that time of year when writers take up the challenge to write a novel as part of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).  From November 1 until 11:59:59 on November 30, all budding writers are encouraged to tackle writing a novel (50,000 words minimum or approximately 175 pages).

With a mere 30 days, the idea is to write, write, write.  No worries about quality, revision, or advanced plotting.  Get the words on the page, and get the story done however it turns out.  There’s even a website for participants to join with other writers for encouragement or commiseration.  Check out the official site here.

This year, for the first time, I plan to participate.  I hope–keyword: HOPE–to accomplish my goal of working on and finishing a fantasy novel, an idea I’ve been toying with for some time.  Along with that, I plan to blog weekly about the story’s progress.  Perhaps that will serve as incentive to keep me on target.

I believe I read somewhere that NaNoWriMo roughly breaks down to writing approximately 1,660 words a day.  That’s like 2-3 single-spaced pages daily.  Surely that can’t be so hard, right?

Let the writing begin…
