Liven up your holidays with a Candy Cane Cocktail.
As far as cocktails go, this one is a relative newcomer. And as I’ve found with more recent creations, there are a variety of ways to make it. In fact, searching the name of this cocktail will net innumerable recipes and variations. So what’s one more?
What you’ll need: Vodka, White Creme de Menthe, Grenadine and Cream. A candy cane or two helps.
Edge your cocktail glass with lemon juice and rim it with crushed candy cane granules. Careful pour 1/2 ounce of grenadine in your glass. In a shaker, pour 1 ounce each of vodka and white creme de menthe. Add in about 1 1/2 ounces of cream (or milk if you’re counting calories). Shake and then gently strain into your glass to create a creamy pink concoction that mimicks the taste of a candy cane. Optionally, add a small candy cane as a garnish.
How I like it: Well, since I whipped up the above recipe, that’s how I like it! I was inspired to rim the glass with candy cane bits by seeing other recipes. That could have worked out a bit better; it’s not as easy as it looks. In future, mixing some some sugar in might help achieve a more even coating. Also, other recipes suggest using such varied ingredients as peppermint schnapps, white creme de menthe, flavored vodkas, white chocolate liqueur, and even rum! I went with what I had on hand and judged the proportions and flavors based on experience. Thus the recipe above. Hope you like this version.
