Finishing off this month’s Amaretto inspired drinks is an Amaretto Sunrise. I guess you could say I’m hoping winter will be over soon.
Amaretto Sunrise, similar to the more familiar Tequila Sunrise, is a layered drink. The trick is in how you pour.
What you’ll need: Amaretto, Orange Juice, and Grenadine
Pour 1 ounce amaretto and 4 ounces orange juice in a shaker over cracked ice. Shake and then strain into a highball glass. Now the tricky part. Pour a 1/2 ounce of grenadine into a shot glass. Slowly pour the grenadine over the back of a spoon into your glass until your drink looks like a sunrise.
How I like it: Some recipes call for less grenandine (up to a tablespoon) but I use a 1/2 ounce. Use more or less grenadine to suit your taste. Interestingly enough, I’ve never tried this drink before. I’ve had a Tequila Sunrise but not this. It turned out rather well, though. Maybe I’ll stump a bartender with it sometime. As for the photo, you’ll notice a Celtic design visible on the far side of the glass I used which came as a set of two with a bottle of Irish Mist.
And as always, drink responsibly!
