Friday Cocktail

Sex on the Beach

For those who might find it embarrassing to order this one out at a restaurant or bar, here’s one way to make Sex on the Beach at home!

This drink has a lot of variations depending on people’s whims.  Some have used pineapple juice in place of orange.  Chambord instead of grenadine.  Some with or without amaretto.  It’s hard to find a consensus.  Most often the drink is vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry and orange juice.  Anything else is extra.  I’ve chosen the following variation.

What you’ll need:  vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry and orange jucie, grenadine, and amaretto (optional)

In a shaker over cracked ice, pour an ounce each of vodka, cranberry and orange juice.  Add a dash of grenadine, and if you wish, add an ounce of amaretto.  Shake and then strain into either a collins glass or (as I’ve done here) a martini glass.  Float a 1/2 ounce of peach schnapps on top.  Garnish with a slice of pineapple or other tropical fruit to your liking.

How I like it:  Okay, here’s how I made the drink pictured.  I put all the ingredients in a shaker, including the peach schnapps.  Shake.  Shake.  Then strained it into the glass.  If I had pineapple on hand, I would most definitely have used it as a garnish.  Love pineapple.  I likely would have added a maraschino cherry or two.  I used the porportions as mentioned above.  Now, most recipes for Sex on the Beach do not call for amaretto, but doesn’t amaretto make everything better?  Well, almost everything.

Try this variation of this drink and see what you think.

As always, drink responsibly!
